In my opinion, ''social media'' phenomenon affects our life a lot. It is very common to everyone especially the younger generations. As you can see, i'm doing my assignment through blogging!
I remember my first email account was created during Form 1. I was kinda outdated as most of my classmates chat in msn everyday. We only use email to share info to each other. Then, blogs and social networking site like Friendster and Facebook are getting popular during my high school life. The social networking sites are easy to operate thus people can share many pictures and thoughts. Nowadays, the most common phrases that can be heard around are "Add me in fb!", "Tag me/you/him/her!", " Today i haven't twitt yet...." and etc. Sooner or later， the popular social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and Skype will replace email.
I would say that social media makes our life more simple. We can share anything we like to everyone with just a few clicks in the website. Sharing is caring. =) There are many ways for us to get the latest news and info and communicate with the people around the world. Thanks to Skype, I get to talk to my uncle in the US whom i never see for the past 18 years.

Social Media---o.O???
For me...Social Media is, at its most basic sense, a shift in how people discover, read, and share news and information and content for the whole world.
At the beginning, its start with a traditional media such as newspapers, television, books and radio, social media has changed the way in which the world receives and views information. It is a best understood as a group of new kinds of online media for us. It also allows our communities to form quickly and communicate effectively such as the MSN and Facebook.
Through the help of social media, we can share our common interests,such as a love of photography or a favourite TV show. As we can said that the term of social media is used to describe the use of today’s technology to distribute information and encourage people to connect with others who share a common interest. Moreover, its allow users to actively participating in sharing information through comments, discussions, reviews and networking via text, graphics, audio and video. Internet tools allow users to actively participate in sharing information through it while the world once start relied on.
Thus, social media is a strange brew of Technology+People+Organization+Freedom. Miss an ingredient, and you are cooking something diffferent.

Talk about "social media" it sure will relate to facebook, msn, blog, ym(yahoo mail), etc. "Social Media" exist quite a long time, I can't remember since when I have a facebook account which I didn't actually use it after I register it and few year after that, I start to be active in it when I got an internet line in home, that is around last year.
Peoples use social media to express themselves, which some of the people they do not like to talk about themselves but they express themselves through facebook, msn personal message, or blog; which we also like to go others blog to read what happened to our friends nowadays. And sometime we find that the different style of our friends which they didn't show in the public.
"Social media" is actually also a kind of way that can save money to communicate with peoples around the world, because it is free of charge, for example, my mother contact my uncles or aunts who live in America and Brazil by using msn video call, chatting or maybe emails, without need to pay bills like long distance calls.
Social Media really affect a lot in our life, for examples, some of them use blog to replace writing diaries everyday; in the past we do not have the life which spending most of the time in a day to online using facebook or msn, now we always did it; we gain knowledge, learn things, receive information through social media such as emails, youtube, facebook, etc.; and also we can share our knowledge, or everything through social media as well.
Last thing is social media do really can bring a group of peoples who share the same interests together. It happens in my life which I have a group in facebook who brings all the peoples who like to play dance machine together, and through it we know each other and we have gathering together and enjoy the same interest together, and become good friends, while the groups grows larger and larger. This is really something amazing because at first I really do not expect that social media can use in such way as well.

Hello~ ^^ Sory for the long post.... It's okay to skip... I really can't stop typing! >,<
This post is about something that is common to almost everyone in this world, that is social media. Although it is popular among us, but do we actually know what this thing can do?? Or do we really know what is 'social media'?
Okay, personally to me, social media is a media which can be used to communicate with each others. For examples: internet forums, web blog, microblogging, wikis, podcast, social bookmarking and etc. This media can connect not just the people in our state or country, it can connect us to the people around the globe. I am impressed to what these media can do though. But, it can sometimes disrupt our daily time management... It happens to me... Sometimes :( I was somewhat hypnotized by my own laptop! Can you believe it?! Im its owner for god sake!! It was like I don't want to let go of my laptop...It is scary.. Uuuuuuuuuu~ Frankly, the social media is how we keep in touch with the people around us. We intent to keep up-to-date with them. So that's why we usually spent more time in front of the mediums (computer/laptops etc).
By the way, do you realize that people in this 'social' world usually use their false name and false personal information?? This is because they wanted to protect themselves from the online criminals, that is true. But there is also another reason why they kept doing this. It is because they wanted a second life. They usually wanted a better 'them'. Here's the example... There is this game called 'The Sims' Have you heard of it? The latest sims are 'the sims 3'.. Hehehe, promote2x. :p) It's a social game which we all have our own avatar( Not the blue avatar....) and we can control it to do whatever we want....Do like the normal people can do. Buying cloths, talking to people... What?? Where's the special you say??? Haha, well, in this game, people often do something that they can't do or afraid to do so in the real world.....
So, the social media is a playful media that can bring us close together... At the same time, it can shows who we really are.... ;) -end-

Social media
how this new "Social Media" phenomenon is affecting your life and the lives of the people around you.
In my own view, this ''Social Media'' phenomenon has really affect many people's lives. Almost ALL the people I know has their own account on the social media sites.
The popular social media sites I can name are Facebook, Twitter, Cyworld, Myspace and YouTube. Friendster which is also a social media site used to be very popular when I was in my secondary education like 3-5 years ago. But now, Facebook has totally taken over Friendster's popularity. It's obvious that the sites which I've mentioned above are popular among the younger generations, but now, it is even popular among the older generations! Even my parents have their own account on Facebook. Haha.
Social media sites not only brings people closer together, it also make us know someone better. From what I've noticed, some people 'act' differently in the virtual world. What I mean is, they tend to open up themselves more than in the real world. Some people are emotional in the virtual world because they like to share their feelings. Sometimes you'll be surprised at the things they post on the social media sites.
I guess I should just end my review here :)

What came across to you, when you first open your computer? Log in your Facebook account or your msn and etc?? Yeah, i bet everyone giving me the same answer, even you didn't notice that you actually repeating the same things everyday.
Social media has it's own power to affect people life, they can take over your life, or even control you. Can you dont sign in to your facebook for a week or a month?? You will said "No!!!" Somethings that you rely on it to get the latest info, you will not said no with it, without it your life will be hard. Same things goes to myspace, twitter, youtube and etc. It's already like a part of our must have items in our daily life.
People connecting with each other using all these social networking site, sharing the different info between each othert. But there's a part of people over use these social networking site, they can abandon their works and family. Even it is very useful sometimes, but it doesn't mean that it will always bring benefit to everyone, there will be a lot of negative impact too.
Thus, social media brings a lot of impact to the society. but i believe it is depends on how the user use it. =)

Well hello everyone…hahaha. Guess I’ll be the first one posting reviews on our first assignment. =)

First of all, I wouldn’t say that social media is exactly a ‘new’ phenomenon because social media has been going on around for quite awhile. In fact social media has been around for the past 5-7 years ago or longer. I say 5-7 years because I had my first Friendster account when I was in Form 2 or so. So that’s like about 6 years ago. However, social media only has gained much acknowledgement in recent years as more and more people are beginning to become aware of it and realize the potential of social media in influencing the society. Social media is affecting almost every portion of a teenager‘s or a young adult’s life. The best example would be social networking site Facebook. Social media is definitely affecting our lives greatly in a way that it is almost impossible to find someone (teenagers and young adults) who does not have a Facebook account. Plus, I know for a fact that most of my friends and myself included must log in to Facebook every day. It has become some sort of norm for us in fact.
The social media phenomenon is still growing and companies have turned to social networking sites and other social media to reach out to consumers. Thus, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that one day (very soon perhaps) social media will have the ability to control us. This is also because social media is able to meet almost all our needs. For example, Facebook and Twitter meets our needs for social interactions, Youtube meets our needs for entertainment, and blogs meet our needs for expressing our thoughts and many more. In short, social media has a large impact towards today’s society especially among the younger generation. Social media has become a trend among us, a very popular trend that will probably be here to stay for a long time.
